Broadcasting

All programmes are formatted to Windows Media (WMV) standard, which are suitable for high quality broadcast on the Justice Network. The file size and duration of each programme is specified for each piece of content you choose to download from our video library.

The download times will depend on the speed of your connection to the internet. As a general guide, it will take you around 13 minutes to download a 100mb programme if you have standard 1mb broadband.

When previewing a programme, you are watching a lower quality version. This reduced quality provides the ability to watch the programme without waiting for it to download.

The content remains the same as the higher quality programmes so you can be assured that what you see in the preview movies is identical to the higher quality films you will download.

Video Library

The process of using The Life Channel video library to enhance your programming is straightforward. The following step by step guide below will take you through the process quickly and efficiently.

1. Only a registered user is authorised to navigate to the video library page of this website and download content. Unregistered users can browse and preview content but not download. If you wish to register, please complete the registration form

2. The video library pages detail certain types of programmes which are listed by category and then by subject matter. To make searching and selection simple, an image and a short description is included for each programme. You can select programmes by searching categories and their subcategories. You can even make your search more specific by entering a keyword and search for a programme with that item or action in its title or description, e.g. 'literacy' or 'nutrition'. In each instance the search engine will provide a list of the programmes that contain a keyword match based on your search criteria for you to review.

3. For each programme a short description and a still image is included to help you review whether that programme contains the right information. You can watch the programme before downloading by simply pressing the 'preview' button next to the description.

If the film is suitable and you wish to use it, press the download button to copy a high resolution version of the film to the PC you are using at that time. (Remember you are browsing the library and selecting via the internet and so the PC you are using maybe at work, at home or somewhere else).

4. You can download multiple programmes from the library at the same time. Currently, there are no limits to the number of programmes you can download. Like all files you download for the internet, you must indicate when the computer asks you to 'save as' where you would like the files to be saved to on the PC you are using at that time.

We recommend you create a folder called 'The Justice Network,' on your PC's hard drive and save all programme files to that directory. (These files will be Microsoft Windows Media standard WMV movie files which will be virus-free).

We also recommend that you do not change the name of the file or the properties of the file to ensure it plays out correctly when uploaded to your network.

5. Once you have downloaded your programmes to your specific folder on your machine, you can then save the programme to that machine or transfer/copy to other PCs, interactive whiteboards or projectors that can accommodate the playback of high resolution WMV files. If in doubt, we recommend you speak to the member of staff responsible for ITC in your establishment or service who will be able to help.
