NHS Walsall has built up an exciting partnership with The Life Channel out-of-home television network in an effort to get key health and well-being messages across to patients in the area.
The 2008 Health Profile for Walsall shows that the health of people in the area is worse than the England average, particularly in regards heart disease, stroke, obesity, diabetes and cancer. Within Walsall, there is an eight year difference in life expectancy in the least and most deprived areas. The Life Channel's innovative network gives doctors' surgeries the unique opportunity to communicate directly to people most affected by these vital health issues, as well as to promote awareness of other local needs.
"NHS Walsall is committed to improving the health of local people by supporting them to maximise their own health and well-being," said Narinder Sahota, Associate Medical Director for Primary Care for NHS Walsall. "Healthier lifestyles really can make a big difference and enable people to have much longer, healthier lives. Working with The Life Channel to get these messages across to local people while they are accessing NHS services will be a key tool in helping us achieve this goal, especially in deprived areas."
