Over 70 key public figures and members of the local community turned up to celebrate The Life Channel Schools network's successful launch at Ashfield Boys' High School, showcasing its state-of-the-art in-school TV channel for the first time in Northern Ireland, 6 March.
The Life Channel Schools network, in partnership with Belfast Education & Library Board, delivers high quality programming, supporting key government initiatives such as the DENI's Every School a Good School and NICCY's five priorities: Play and Leisure; Well-being and Mental Health; Having Your Say; Protection; Equal Treatment. The network operates as a communications platform for each school to communicate with their students, whilst other partners including the GAA, IFA, PSNI and CSPs can also add content designed to highlight community initiatives. The Life Channel also helps schools to tackle key issues children may come across such as child obesity, staying healthy and being safe.
Speaking at Friday's event were key personnel including Andy McMorran, Head of Ashfield Boys' High School; Paul Vitali, Director of The Life Channel; Jim Rodgers, Chairman of the BELB; Basil McCrea, member of the Unionist Party MLA and a member of the NI Policing Board; Patricia Lewsley, Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children & Young People (NICCY); Geoff Wilson, Head of Marketing and Communications, Irish Football Association; Peter Craig, Assistant Commissioner, NI Fire and Rescue Service; Geri Cameron, Head teacher, Loughshore Education Resource Centre; Dr Alan Largey, Civic Link Development Officer, Co-Operation Ireland; and Professor Dennis Maloney, Donnelly & Wall.
