NHS County Durham has built up an exciting partnership with The Life Channel's in-practice TV network, in an effort to get key health and well-being messages across to patients in the area.
The 2008 Health Profile for County Durham suggests that overall health in the area is poor and particularly cites local estimates of smoking, early deaths from cancer, heart disease and stroke as being worse than the England average. County Durham has prioritised promoting positive mental health, reducing alcohol misuse and tackling obesity over the next three years. The Life Channel's innovative network gives doctors' surgeries the unique opportunity to communicate directly to people most affected by these vital health issues, as well as to promote awareness of other local needs.
"NHS County Durham is committed to providing more and better information to patients to help them look after their own health," said Anna Lynch, Locality Director of Public Health, County Durham. "We have commissioned The Life Channel to help us do this."
