NHS South West Essex has built up an exciting partnership with The Life Channel satellite TV network in an effort to get key health and well-being messages across to patients in the area.
The 2008 Health Profile for Essex particularly cites physical activity in adults, road injuries and deaths as being worse than the England average. One adult in 5 smokes and around 2200 deaths are caused by smoking in Essex each year.
The Life Channel's innovative network gives doctors' surgeries the unique opportunity to communicate directly to people most affected by these vital health issues, as well as to promote awareness of other local needs.
"The Life Channel was identified by NHS South West Essex as an ideal way to communicate to the local population, tailoring the information being communicated accordingly," said Niall McDougall, Public Health Project Manager at NHS South West Essex.
"It is an exciting opportunity to bring [The Life Channel] to our population, and in doing so raise awareness of the services that local GPs and NHS South West Essex provide."
