Planet SciCast comes to The Life Channel Schools

10 Sep 2008

Planet SciCast is a new, innovative way for Life Channel Schools to inspire their students - the next generation of scientists and engineers - with entertaining, science-related material.

This unique project - run by NESTA in partnership with the Institute of Physics and the Engineering and Technology Board - raises the profile of science demonstrations as a way to engage children and young people.

A massive resource of fun, downloadable short films, science activities and experiments, plus advice on filming and getting involved can be found on Planet SciCast's website.

To keep these resources constantly fresh and growing, Planet SciCast holds an annual competition - along with the SciCast Physics regional competition - encouraging teachers, students and parents to send their own independent films in, sharing exciting science experiments. Prizes include a coveted Planet SciCast award and £250 in Amazon vouchers.

The Life Channel Schools can submit their own science films into Planet SciCast's competition to be included on the site for other schools to use as teaching resources. Member schools are also encouraged to place this content on their own Life Channel screens.

The Life Channel Schools network is an in-school TV channel which provides schools with a plethora of high quality video content supporting The Children's Plan and the Every Child Matters agenda. The unique network also allows schools to play an unlimited amount of their own material. Everything ranging from information regarding school term times and uniform rules, to short videos produced and edited in-school, can be shown on each school's individual network.
