Waterloo Primary School has won the 2008 e-Tameside Award for the 'Most innovative use of ICT in a school/college' for its use of The Life Channel Schools network.
"Children make and edit videos to use on The Life Channel screens around the school, viewed by pupils, parents and staff," said Nancy Morse, e-Learning Team Leader, Tameside MBC. "Videos covered science animations, school productions and early years activities. The judges were impressed by how knowledgeably the children could describe the process of making and editing their own videos."
According to e-Tameside Awards' judging criteria, Waterloo Primary School won as they took full advantage of The Life Channel's system. Through The Life Channel, the teaching or learning environment within the school was transformed, raising standards.
The Life Channel enabled Waterloo to use technologies such as learning platforms, video conferencing, video editing or other innovative approaches in such a way that its impact on students' outcomes was able to be seen and measured. "The Life Channel is a sustainable project thatencourages all children of all abilities to be creative and learn ICT and multimedia skills, giving accessibility to everyone," said Waterloo's Head Teacher Lesley Ironmonger.
"Our students are always creating content for The Life Channel screens around our school - in fact they often give up break time and even lunch to make films for the network. We have made over 50 films since September 2008, and it has really helped to create a wider sense of community within the schools, and also given lots of us a chance to see things we otherwise would have missed."
