At this year's 2009 Peterborough Children's Film Awards, The Life Channel in-school TV network is sponsoring the award for Nursery/Reception Documentary.
Run in conjunction with Peterborough's city literacy campaign - Read,Write, Inspire - the children and young people's film competition is held to generate interest and innovation in schools and the wider community.
"This is the 4th year we have held the event in Peterborough - it is a direct 'take' on the Hollywood Oscars - but for children and young people aged 4 to 19 years," said Janet MacPhee, Project Director.
Presenting the Nursery/Reception Documentary Award at this year's event will be The Life Channel's Regional Commercial Manager, Darren Quilty.
The Life Channel's Paston Ridings Primary School, whom won the Environmental Film (Documentary) Award last year for their film Air Pollution, has entered again this year with films from all their year groups.
"Our school participated to give children a chance to make their own films so they could improve their literacy skills - speaking and listening in particular," said Favian Peres, ICT Coordinator at Paston Ridings Primary School.
"Our students' films will be posted on The Life Channel screens in our school for all stakeholders to see, including previous winners. The Life Channel has allowed us to communicate with and educate children in an exciting way. I have been impressed so far with its ease of use. Photos of trips, newsletters and important dates have all been posted on The Life Channel screens at our school," said Peres.
